137 – Church Street Regeneration Base

The Regeneration Base is the base for Westminster Council as they deliver the Church Street masterplan, with 1,750 homes, new community and cultural facilities, and an improved and expanded street market. Studio MUTT are transforming an old William Hill bookies into a space for council staff to work, while also being accessible as a drop-in hub for residents and businesses along the historic market street to be kept informed. Church Street is not a traditional workspace. It provides a platform for flexible modes of working, from kitchen tables to private rooms, but most importantly it is a place for people to come together to collaborate and communicate. The space is conceptualised as an extension of the public realm, centring around a large multi-use space that is sectioned off using sliding/bi-folding stained timber and glass screens. Striped timber facades references the market stalls that give so much life to the area and new windows improve the natural ventilation of the space.
